The lack of diversity in STEM is a problem. Black and Hispanic workers are underrepresented in STEM careers overall, and women are underrepresented in computer and engineering professions. How can we strategically recruit and retain a diverse workforce and invest in the next generation of STEM professionals? Dr. Keli Christopher offers recommendations for creating an inclusive culture in your organization while sharing some of her own experiences as a woman and African American in a white male dominated field. It was the lack of diversity in her profession that motivated Dr. Christopher to establish the STEM Greenhouse to prepare vulnerable youth for STEM careers. In her current role, she oversees after school STEM programming in local schools and consults with various organizations to ensure that the future of STEM is as wonderfully diverse as the community in which we live.
