Assistant Vice President/Head of Statistical Analytics - Personal Lines
Drew Betz earned a M.A. and PhD. in Social Psychology with a minor in Quantitative Psychology from The Ohio State University. After a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Cognitive Psychology at Boise State University, he spent seven years creating high value-added business models at GTE Laboratories. These efforts concentrated on combining data mining tools with traditional statistical approaches to optimize business processes. Drew moved to Progressive’s R&D group in 2002 and made significant contributions via neural nets, finite mixture models, and generalized linear models. Upon joining BristolWest in 2004, Drew assumed a dual role as an R&D manager while also serving four years as BristolWest’s Product Manager for Indiana. Drew is currently Assistant Vice President/Head of Statistical Analytics for Farmers Insurance Personal Lines. To date, Drew holds five U.S. patents and is the author or co-author of 15 peer-reviewed papers in both business and psychology journals. Currently, Drew is working with Keras/Tensorflow to build several machine learning APIs for Farmers including image recognition, natural language processing, and recurrent nets to enhance pricing accuracy.
