Integrating Big-Data Topics in the Classroom
With the ever increasing volumes of data collected and continual need of data-driven positions in the workforce, developing students’ desire and abilities to explore questions about phenomena occurring in the world with empirical evidence is vital.
This hands-on workshop is directed towards middle school and senior high school STEM educators looking at introducing Big Data topics to students. It will walkthrough two, ready to use, in-class activities along with time spent assisting participants integrate these materials into their classrooms.
Topics that will be explored in the activities include rates of fatal car accidents and the co-occurrence or hashtags used in Tweets during the 2017 ArtPrize.
Participants will need to bring their own laptop to this workshop.
