Invited Talk | Day 3 | 8:30 am | 40 Minute Duration | Grand Gallery E/F

Human-centered design is an approach to problem-solving that involves building empathy for the people you’re designing for so that you can develop creative solutions to fit their needs. In this talk, I will give an overview of design thinking, outline how data science can be approached as a design discipline, and share how human-centered design informs a view on data ethics. Through examples, I’ll show how this approach can help uncover opportunities to create impact leveraging an assortment of techniques: from simple data science to state-of-the-art machine learning.
